Trans Bhutan Trail
A restored long-distance route linking Haa to Trashigang through living cultural landscapes.
Overview
The Trans Bhutan Trail was once the route used by monks, traders and royal messengers, and it has now been restored as a flexible cross-country walking route. Stretching over 400 kilometres from Haa in the west to Trashigang in the east, it moves through villages, farmland, monasteries, dzongs and sacred sites rather than wilderness. Its greatest strength is flexibility: travellers can walk a short standalone section or combine stretches into a much longer journey that reveals how Bhutan is lived, not just viewed.
